Tell us about your family. My wife is my best friend and the thing I love about her most is her gift of encouragement. She and my daughters are incredibly motivated, hard-working, successful, and great athletes. What makes them the most fun is all three of them have a hilarious sense of humor.
What was your worst job ever? Rogueing cucumbers. You pluck the flower of the young plant to turn the males into females or visa versa. One gender grows the fruit you harvest and one doesn't. Thankfully I can't remember too much about it.
What is your favorite movie of all time? Schindler's List.
Your best vacation ever was . . . family ski trip to the Patagonia Mountains in Argentina.
What would people be most surprised to learn about you? That I've owned two hang gliders.
What are your three favorite ways to spend your free time?
1. Powder skiing with my family (preferably in a cold storm); 2. Scuba diving with my daughters (Carolyn isn't certified); 3. Praying in the forest with my dogs by my side.
Why are you doing this job? Time is short. What we do here matters. I can't imagine anything I could do with my time that could have as significant an impact; I know this is where God wants me; and there isn't anything I would enjoy as much. I only wish I had started 20 years ago.
The best thing about your job is . . . I really love visiting with people, but the honest truth is that I love to spend time diligently studying God's Word and teaching - especially when folks can interact. I actually look forward to going to work, which isn't always true of my other job!
If you weren't doing this job and you could have any other job in the world what would it be? Professional ski patroller, seminary professor, or both if at all possible.
